The Boss Babe Guide To Self-Care

Running your own business ain’t easy and more often than not, the line between work and life can get a little blurry. We get so caught up with our never-ending to do list that taking time to look after ourselves often takes the backseat.

Hustling is amazing, but pouring yourself into your business and forgetting that you need some love as well can quickly result in bu

rnout and exhaustion. Knowing when to take a step back to focus on your mental and physical well-being is just as important as focusing on your career.

Trust me, by putting yourself first and your business second, both of them will thrive. A little self-care goes a long way, so I rounded up a list of my top tips for busy boss girls!

1. Schedule breaks

Short 15-minute breaks spread out throughout the day will help you clear your mind, reduce stress, and even help you come to solutions when you’re dealing with overwhelming tasks. Make sure you take these breaks away from your working space, and avoid screens at all costs - yes, that includes your phone!

A short walk, a quick meditation session, or simply sitting outside to get some fresh air while sipping on a smoothie are surefire ways to reset your mind and get you ready to take on whatever the rest of the day throws your way.

2. Know when to clock out

One of the hardests aspects of owning a business is having a never-ending to do list and feeling guilty when taking time off. I’ve been there!

A healthy work/life balance is essential to keeping both yourself and your business sane. Burnout is very real, and it catches up on everyone who routinely favors work over free time.

Schedule a clock out time and stick to it. It’s okay to stay a little bit longer in the office whenever it’s absolutely necessary, but make sure you don’t do it more than a couple of times a month.

3. Have a kickass morning routine

Mornings are a perfect opportunity to define how the rest of your day will go, so fill up that time will all things self-care.

Think of a few things you love that make you feel good, and plan a detailed routine instead of spending half an hour scrolling through Instagram in bed after waking up. Think kicking in a short workout, making a cup of tea and listening to an empowering podcast, or taking a long, relaxing shower.

Whatever activities you fill up your morning routine with, make sure they nourish you and make you feel good to take on whatever the day throws at you!

4. And a nighttime routine, too!

Yep, nighttime routines are also an amazing way to boost your mood and take care of yourself. You deserve that after working so hard!

Nighttime self-care routines can be a little more elaborate than morning ones, as they’re usually more relaxing. Think taking a long bath, trying out that skincare routine you’ve had your eye on, or cooking that delicious recipe you saw on Pinterest!

5. Prioritize your health

Things get busy on a constant basis, and it’s so easy to skip your workout or go for takeout instead of having a nourish meal.

Here’s the thing - putting your health over your business is key to long-term success. If you neglect your body to focus on working, sooner or later, burnout and stress will catch up with you. When you prioritize your body over your work, both of them will bloom.

6. Take longer breaks

Go ahead and book that flight to Cabo. Taking regular, long breaks is essential to clear your mind and feel refreshed. I’ve spoken a lot about burnout on this post already, and that’s because it’s a very real thing that sneaks up on us when we least expect it.

A longer vacation or a simple weekend getaway with your partner or BFFs is the single best thing you can do for yourself. You’ll come back refreshed and super inspired!
